SlideShare is in BusinessWeek !!

b.bmp Slideshare has been covered in BusinessWeek, the global business news magazine cum website. This is an extract from the write up about Slideshare titled - “Have I Got A PowerPoint For You“.

In the beginning, there was MP3 sharing. Then came friend sharing (MySpace), photo sharing (Flickr), and video sharing (YouTube). Now it has come to this: PowerPoint slide sharing.

SlideShare.net offers a place to upload, view, and search for PowerPoint presentations. And since opening up its beta site in October, it has received tens of thousands of files.

The site’s “decks,” as the slide shows are called, are diverse: conference presentations, classroom lessons (”Let’s Learn Colors!” from a middle-school Spanish class), and PowerPoint satire (Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address famously summarized in bullet points, created in 2000 by Peter Norvig, Google’s research director).

Unfortunately, you might not be able to see the article since BusinessWeek’s online version is a paid subscription (and they have no trial account as well).

This is great news for us and we are really kicked by this coverage. Let me thank all users of the site.

DelhiBarcamp2…another testimony to the success of unconferences

barcampdelhi2.gif DelhiBarCamp2 happened last Saturday (9th Dec) and it was another testimony to the resounding success of the very concept of BarCamps. Truly, with so many of these unconferences happening with such an astonishing frequency across various cities in India, you can begin to sense the nucleation of a tech ecosystem with BarCamps at the core. Apart from the US from where it originated, the second largest number of BarCamps have happened in India.

Here are some tid-bits about the event –

- The event was attended by about 65-70 people, which is the same number as last BarCamp at Delhi. Overall there were some 15 sessions.

- The heartening thing to note was that there were lots of first time participants; also the representation from the developer community was much larger this time around.

- The venue was Impetus Infotech, which is a medium scale Indian software company; that’s an encouraging sign as well- the fact that such organizations are seeing a value in associating with unconferences. A sincere thanks to them for sponsoring the event.

- We had a presentation from a fairly senior level TCS person, so that’s great as well- the fact that the big Indian software services companies are beginning to turn up as well.

- Something that disappointed me was the pool of presenters; it did not expand as compared to the last edition. The sessions included multiple presentations from the same company (including my own), which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it would have been better if there was greater diversity amongst the presenters.

The quality of the presentations and the ensuing discussions was great- no complains on that front.

Here are some snaps from the event shared via SlideShare.

Uzanto/SlideShare Geek Party Snapshots

The Uzanto/SlideShare geek party (openhouse) turned out to be a fun evening. We had 21-22 participants- a BIG THANKS to all for making it to the party. It was great interfacing with some amongst Delhi’s tech, startup & usability community. We have a small office but when tech enthusiasts meet, any space seems too big. Foods & beverages took a backseat as people were too engrossed in socializing.

Here’s hoping to more of such events in Delhi. The snapshots of the event are shared via slideshare.

BarCampDelhi2- will you be there?

barcampdelhi2.gifThe BarCamp fever is revisting Delhi once again. Delhi’s second tryst with this unconference is scheduled for the 9th of Dec (venue still not decided). And as before, this is likely to be a don’t miss event for Delhi’s tech, startup & entrepreneur community.

The event is still gathering momentum. Since its a one day event, the number of slots available for presentations are likely to be limited. Hence if you plan to make a presentation, you should book your place NOW.

If the previous Barcamp (held in March05) is any indicator, this one should be well attended as well. I am looking forward to any product demos, live code-in sessions etc as they tend to electrify the proceedings rather than plain powerpoint style presentations.

This is the wiki where all the action is folding out.

See you there!
